Pair of Late 19th Century French Louis XVI Style Hand Carved Walnut Armchairs
About the Item
This pair of late nineteenth century French Louis XVI style armchairs is constructed of solid walnut. Their beautifully hand carved details includes classic motifs of an interlaced scrolling and floral pattern, acanthus leaves and overlapping quatrefoils on the armrests, and rosettes at the die joints. The seat backs are "a la reine," or in the queen's style, with gently inclined square seat backs supported by fluted columns. The seats rest on tapered fluted legs. A fine pair of armchairs to mix well in any interior, circa 1890.
