Set of Four French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Giltwood Armchairs

About the Item

A striking and most elegant complete set of four French 19th century Louis XVI st. giltwood armchairs. Each chair is raised by circular tapered fluted legs with topie shaped feet and finely carved leaves and a charming wrap around twisted rope band. Above each leg are superb block reserves flanking an impressive richly carved foliate and beaded band which extends along the curved front, sides, and back of the seat. The cushioned arms each display an elegant curved design with large intricately detailed acanthus leaves, scrolled designs, and beautiful finely detailed carved foliate designs leading upwards and continuing along the border of the upholstered back support. All original gilt throughout.
