About the Item

A beautiful and high quality set of four French early 19th century Louis XV st. giltwood and tapestry armchairs. Each armchair is raised by elegant cabriole legs with lovely carved foliate designs and finely carved seashell reserves at each corner. The decorative arbalest shaped frieze is centered by a richly carved scrolled floral reserve flanked by lovely foliate movements below elegantly scrolled cushioned armrest with fine reeded designs leading to the upholstered back support. The seats and back support each retain their original beautiful tapestry upholstery likely depicting the Fables of Jean de la Fontaine with fine attention to detail and beautiful vivid colors. Each is à chassis which signifies the ease of removing the seat and back enabling to change the upholstery for each season and are framed in a most decorative richly carved giltwood frame with lovely scrolled foliate movements and designs. All original gilt throughout.
