About the Item

A set of 2 Monk chairs designed by the formidable husband-and-wife duo Tobia and Afra Scarpa, renowned for their work that harmonizes materials, technology, and aesthetics. The chairs were sourced from the original owner, who purchased them in 1981 from a dealer on the Kings Road, London, and have been in storage ever since. The Monk chair, one of the pair’s most distinctive and highly regarded designs, features a humble yet elegant form with solid walnut legs and a black leather seat and backrest. The chairs are refined, functional, and comfortable. This set shows surface wear and patina across the walnut and cognac leather, typical of their age, but the leather seat and backrest on each chair remain structurally sound with no rips. Additional images can be provided upon request.
