Philippe Starck Mickville chair for Driade - Italy, 1985

About the Item

A design of deceptive simplicity, Starck’s Mickville chair plays a deft trick. A rotating segment in the tubular back enables movement in one leg, thus allowing the circular seat to be dropped into a vertical position. In profile the displaced seat is a mirror of the top loop. The folded structure can be hung or leaned against a wall. French architect and industrial designer Philippe Starck (b.1949) is widely credited with ushering in a new era of “democratic design”. His philosophy, shaped by an aeronautical engineer father, produced a protean cavalcade of interiors, furniture and home accessories that embraced functional elegance. Among his biggest hits are the Juicy Salif juicer for Alessi (1990) and the Ghost chair for Kartell (2002). In vintage condition, with a chip in the lacquer on the seat and handle back. Minor scratches.
