About the Item

Jabob Kjær for Jacob Kjær Møbelhaandværk, 'UN' armchairs model 'B37', original black leather, mahogany, Denmark, design 1949, manufactured 1957 Stunning pair of 'UN' chairs by Jacob Kjær manufactured in 1957. The Danish designer Jacob Kjær was creating this particular model for the United Nations Building in New York City. The strong, elegant form of the round backrest in combination with the light frame, forms a truly balanced composition. Lightness is created through the slim proportions of the frame which is executed in mahogany. Together with the original black leather with admirable patina this pair of armchairs is visually striking. A manufacturer's label can be found under the seat. Jacob Kjaer (1896-1957) started working as a furniture designer in 1915. From 1918-20 he studied at the Institute of Arts and Crafts Museum in Berlin, then worked in Paris and returned to Copenhagen in 1926. Here, he opened his own workshop. His highly skilled craftsmanship and designs got honored with the Hand Work Medal in 1954. Please note that the leather is in fair condition. The backrest contains wear and tears. The backrest and seat differ in color tone due to the amount of patina. Reupholstery is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well. Please note that the listed price, is the price per item. The mahogany type of this piece does not require an export license.
