About the Item

This elegant lounge set comprising a three-seater sofa and an armchair was designed by Knut Sæter for the renowned Norwegian manufacturer Vatne Møbler during the 1960s. It boasts exceptionally clean, geometric lines – the essence of Scandinavian modernism. The structure is based on a light yet solid rosewood frame, with clearly contoured, slightly curved armrests. The design is minimalist, but not stark – soft edges, balanced proportions, and soft, upholstered cushions create an elegant and comfortable whole. The bottle green velvet adds a refined, elegant touch that contrasts beautifully with the natural wood. The sofa and armchair have a light visual appearance, preventing them from overwhelming the space, even in smaller rooms. Delicate lines and simple forms are the hallmarks of Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern style. This set will not only complement any interior – it will define it. Knut Sæter (1922 - 1989) was a Norwegian interior designer. In 1946, he founded Vatne Lenestolfabrikk in Vatne, Sunnmøre, which became renowned as a manufacturer of elegant upholstered furniture. As founder and chief designer, he expanded the company, employing his brother and collaborating with renowned designers, including Fredrik Kayser and Sigurd Resell. Together with Fredrik Kayser, Sæter created furniture that won acclaim at national and international exhibitions. Models such as the 3- and 4-seater sofas and the lounge chair with its distinctive cushions and rolled edges are now prized design icons. Some catalogs attribute this set to Fredrik Kayser, but according to Vatne, Knut Sæter is the chief designer. Although his collaborations with Fredrik Kayser are well-known, Sæter designed his own sofas and armchairs, often more austere but nonetheless very distinctive. The set is in very good condition. The upholstery has been restored. The seat height is 37 cm. The original signature is located under the seat; both the sofa and armchair are signed. Armchair: height 72 cm width 76 cm depth 71 cm

Mid-Century Australian Modern Teak Sofa & Armchairs by Parker Furniture, 1950s
By Parker Furniture
Located in Warszawa, Mazowieckie
This impressive set of sofa and two armchairs was designed and produced by the Australian company Parker Furniture in 1956. Parker has a legacy of creating some of the finest Mid-Century furniture. These eco-friendly seats are no exception. In an elegant, deep design with perfect proportions, there are simple pillows covered with a characteristic designer material in the color of royal blue, which complements the scultured structure of the frame. The cushions can be raised and the pieces have a spring frame. Elegant, aerodynamic arches are embedded in a low-line solid teak frame that creates an ultra-streamlined 20th century classic. Parker reflects the lightness of form present in the best Mid-Century design and this highly organic living-room set by Parker are a great example of a coveted modernist style. Clean lines and a relaxed profile come together to create a comfortable and stylish pair with a timeless feel. The beauty of these elements can be seen in thoughtful details. The sharp angles visible in the armrests and rear slats add sophistication to this forward-looking design. The set is signed with a label on the wooden frame and an insert on the cushions. Sleek low-back style and sophisticated design are examples of Parker's form from the 1950s. Armchair has 75x69x73cm. The height of seat is 42 cm Parker Furniture began as ‘Dagger and Parker’, a partnership formed between craftsman Alf Dagger, and salesman Jack Parker, after the depression era. From humble beginnings, the company quickly grew, making government tender furniture. Originally, the company made mainly traditional style furniture – reproductions of antique or art deco styles. In the mid 1940s, Tony Parker...
