Vintage Mid-Century Modern 3-Seat Sofa & Armchair by Hans J. Wegner for Getama

About the Item

This elegant lounge set consist of a three-seater sofa and an armchair. The set was designed by Hans J. Wegner for the Getama Gedsted in Denmark during the 1960s. This is the GE-530 model. The frame is made of solid oak wood in dark brown. The frame has a curved armrests resembling bull horns. It is a slightly aggressive design that perfectly harmonizes with special interior arrangements. The pillows are upholstered in elegant woolen fabric. Hans J. Wegner is a world-famous Danish designer known primarily for his numerous chair designs. Wegner had a special ability to combine functionality and aesthetics. Many of his projects have amusing or poetic qualities. Wegner is known as one of the pioneers of Danish modernism and one of the key figures in the golden age of Nordic design. He has received numerous design awards in his career, including the Lunning Prize and the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennial in 1951, the Prince Eugen Medal in 1961, and the C. F. Hansen Medal in 1980. Getam is the epitome of something truly Danish. Excellent craftsmanship, quality and the highest level of service have made the factory known and respected throughout Denmark. This was mainly due to the collaboration with Hans Wegner who helped Gedsted Tang-og Madrasfabrik make an international breakthrough as a furniture company. As a result of this breakthrough, the company had to come up with a shorter and more international name, so in 1953 Gedsted Tang-og Madrasfabrik became Getama. Getama's ambition, after over a hundred years, is still to create innovative furniture designed by the best architects. The set is in original vintage condition with normal traces of age. The armchair has the same height and depth as the sofa. The width of the armchair is 78 cm.

This impressive set of sofa and two armchairs was designed and produced by the Australian company Parker Furniture in 1956. In an elegant, deep design with perfect proportions, there are simple pillows covered with a characteristic designer material in the color of royal blue, which complements the scultured structure of the frame. The cushions can be raised and the pieces have a spring frame. Elegant, aerodynamic arches are embedded in a low-line solid teak frame that creates an ultra-streamlined 20th century classic. Parker reflects the lightness of form present in the best Mid-Century design and this highly organic living-room set by Parker are a great example of a coveted modernist style. The sharp angles visible in the armrests and rear slats add sophistication to this forward-looking design. The set is signed with a label on the wooden frame and an insert on the cushions. Sleek low-back style and sophisticated design are examples of Parker's form from the 1950s. Armchair has 75x69x73cm.
