About the Item

For Airborne, France From the iconic seating designs by Olivier Mourgue featured in Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey' in 1968. Steel frame padded in foam and re-covered in turquoise Kvadrat fabric, on steel bar 'feet'. Chair: H 66 / W 68 / D 68 cm Footstool: H 38 / W 68 / D 66 cm (seat H 34 cm) Mourgue, who trained in Paris and Scandinavia, was captivated by abstract sculptural forms made possible by advances in plastics manipulation. Combined with a pop-art aesthetic (also espoused by his contemporaries Verner Panton and Pierre Paulin), Mourgue's colourful furniture padded in foam over a steel frame, are egonomic embodiments of 1960s design.
