Rare Lounge Chair by Bengt Ruda for Artifort in Wool Fabric, 1960s

About the Item

Beautiful lounge chair manufactured by the Dutch company Artifort in very good condition. This very cosy mid-century lounge chair was designed by Bengt Ruda and is one of his most elusive creations. The frame is crafted from a beautiful light colored beach wood. The frame interacts beautifully with the side and the back of the body of the chair. The rounded edges of the body complement the sleek legs, creating a pleasing aesthetic balance. We reupholstered the chair with a high quality thick woolen fabric by ‘Design of the Times’ Belgium. Artifort has been producing distinguished, comfortable, and functional furniture since 1890. The foundations of Artifort were laid by classic icons created by designers such as Kho Liang Ie, Pierre Paulin, and Geoffrey D. Harcourt RDI. The Artifort collection is characterized by innovative, colourful, and timeless design with a recognizable shape. After studying at Konstfack, the Stockholm School of Art, Crafts and Design, Bengt Ruda began his career as a glass designer at Orrefors Kosta Boda, a Swedish company specializing in the production of high-quality glassware. He worked for the company for over 20 years, designing numerous collections of glasses, vases and other glass objects. In addition to his work in glassware, Bengt Ruda has also worked as an industrial designer for various Swedish companies, including Electrolux and Ericsson. He has designed products such as household appliances, telephones and communication systems. Bengt Ruda has received numerous awards for his work, including the Swedish Design Prize on several occasions. His work is exhibited in museums around the world, including the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design in Stockholm and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
