About the Item

Danish Modern focused more on the aesthetics of modern design whilst employing the exquisite technique and material familiarity of highly skilled craftsmen known as cabinetmakers. Alfred Christensen’s present sofa in this style is a rare and exquisite example of this. This sofa has the characteristic ‘open armrest’ design that showcases the high level craftsmanship and the beautiful walnut structure as well. Clean and pure lines define this model that are coupled with expert craftsmanship and delicate research into proportions, materials and the requirements of the human body, adapting design to modern-day needs. Adopting the trend of abandoning ornamentation to benefit the form, Christensen maintained the beauty and warmth inherent to traditional Danish cabinetmaking. In consequence, this three-seater sofa has an elegant but still warm look thanks to its rounded edges and open execution. The only form of ornamentation - apart from the bent armrests - is the button tufting on the back. The light colour of the textural upholstery in combination with the dark walnut legs create an aesthetic that is perfect to bring a modern touch to any space. While Danish designers, including Alfred Christensen, had many principles, above all, all designers believed that design could certainly be used to improve people's lives. Elegant and functional, this sofa model is certain to do exactly that. The designer along with the manufacturer, Slagelse Møbelfabrik, assures quality and timelessness.
