About the Item

A finely proportioned Chinese wooden stool dating to the late Qing Dynasty, early 20th century, distinguished by its rattan inset seat, waisted apron, and horse hoof legs. The square top, framed in rounded wood, encloses a woven rattan panel that has developed a rich, time-softened patina. Beneath, the apron is carved with a series of scroll motifs, a subtle decorative touch that balances the restraint of the overall form. The four straight legs, joined by stretchers on all sides, end in simply-shaped hoof feet, lending both strength and elegance. Stools of this type were versatile furnishings in China, equally suited for seating or as occasional tables, and they remain highly adaptable in today’s interiors. With its clean lines, warm wood surface, and understated carving, this example presents well in both traditional and contemporary settings. It may be floated as a low side table beside a chair, grouped with other stools, or used as an accent piece that brings authentic character and historical depth to a room.
