Chinese blond hardwood stool in the Ming taste, 1800-25

About the Item

Chinese Yumu wood (Northern Chinese elm) stool in the Ming taste. The waisted and bull nose frame and panel top is engaged to the rounded framing elements including the leg posts. The legs are joined under the table frame with a continuous camel back rail, which have been carved to appear to wrap around the upper leg posts. China, circa 1800-25.

  • Condition:
    Stool top elements show shrinkage, and one leg has a shrinkage check running 7" down from the frame, both with no change in stability. Scratches and marks to the the top are consistent with age and use.
