Mid-Century 1958 Vintage Jean Touret Stool

About the Item

After settling in the village of Marolles, the French sculptor Jean Touret discovered a tradition of unique local craftsmanship. He created a craft cooperative and became its artistic director. The furniture produced during this period reflects his flair for simplicity and authenticity. This model of stool became one of the most iconic pieces created by Touret In the 1950s. It embodies the rustic elegance and functionality typical of mid-20th-century French design. Made entirely of wood, the stool features a solid, hand-carved seat with a slightly irregular shape, emphasizing its artisanal character and natural beauty. The stool rests on three splayed wooden legs, which provide stability while maintaining a simple, utilitarian aesthetic. The visible grain and knots in the wood celebrate its organic origins, reflecting Touret's affinity for natural materials and craftsmanship. Stools are marked with a Marolles elephant stamp, the atelier's mark of authenticity.
