French 19th century Empire st. flamed Mahogany, Ormolu and Verde Marble cabinets
About the Item
A stunning and most impressive pair of French 19th century Empire st. flamed Mahogany, Ormolu, and Verde Antico Marble cabinets. Each four drawer two door cabinet is raised by two front Ormolu paw feet and two rear block Mahogany feet. The straight aprons on the front and both sides are decorated by mottled edges accented with Coeur-de-Rai Ormolu bands. The columns on either side are decorated at their plinth and top capital with pierced scrolling foliate Ormolu designs and flank the four drawers and two doors. The three drawers on the bottom are beautifully decorated with centrally located Ormolu keyhole escutcheons designed with embracing winged cherubs meeting at the center with pierced decorations surrounding, while being flanked on both sides by circular Ormolu pulls and a rosette in the center. Above the three drawers are the two doors that have a central rosette keyhole escutcheon and open to reveal three open faced drawers. The doors are tastefully decorated with an Ormolu spine where the doors meet and pierced palmettes at the top and bottom. Each of the doors contains a diamond shaped pierced Ormolu frame with scrolling foliate designs throughout and joyous Neo-Classical dancing maidens within which are dressed in flowing garments and holding floral ribbons. The fourth drawer is located above the two doors and is decorated by a central circular Ormolu keyhole escutcheon with pierced scrolling foliate designs on either side as well as rosettes flanking the outside. The Verde Antico marble rectangular tops add eye catching color and elegance to each of these high quality pieces.
