About the Item

A striking and high quality pair of French 19th century 2nd Empire Period mahogany, ormolu and patinated bronze buffets with their original mirrored hutches. Each buffet is raised by handsome and richly chased ormolu paw feet below the straight frieze centered by ormolu foliate mounts. The doors are decorated with fine ormolu plaques of female maidens framed within a wreath and set on a recessed panel within a foliate ormolu border. The doors open to reveal one adjustable shelf and are flanked by quivers with ormolu decoration and fine fletchings. The two drawers above, lock by one central keyhole escutcheon and are each decorated with impressive highly chased swan shaped ormolu pulls. Above is the original hutch supported by finely detailed patinated bronze female maidens with ormolu accents and the original mirrored back plate. At the top crown are spread winged eagles at each side, centered by majestic and detailed winged maidens with trumpets flanking a circular plaque of the Emperor Napoleon in a satin and burnished finish below a crest with a chased letter 'N'.
