Pair of French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Mahogany and Ormolu Cabinets
About the Item
A grand and extremely attractive pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. mahogany, kingwood and palisander cabinets with ormolu mounts. Each cabinet is raised on mahogany topie shaped feet with decorative acanthus leaf ormolu bands. Above each foot, at each side of the straight frieze, are fine protruding ormolu rosettes. The frieze is decorated with a brass band framing kingwood. At the bottom of each door is a stunning lattice parquetry design framed in darkened palisander, repeated at each side. At each corner of the door are C scrolled ormolu mounts and an opulent ormolu keyhole escutcheon. Above, revealed through the glass doors are two glass shelves with mirror plate back panel. At the top are two richly chased ormolu corner mounts, centered by a fine ormolu reserve below the original red Levanto marble tops.
