About the Item

Strings storage cabinet by Nika Zupanc is a tall metal cabinet made of multiple steel "strings" with a lace like edge to make an elegant storage cabinet. Available in 3 finish options. Customisations in size and finish are possible upon request. The word strings evokes a vision of lightness in our minds. Be it the strings of a musical instrument or textile strings of everyday use. An elegant Paradox emerges when strings are made of the hard steel and defined into cabinets and credenzas. Designer Nika Zupanc magically achieves lightness and transparency in the Strings collection for Scarlet Splendour, taking “strings” of metal and transforming them into path breaking furniture. There is an influence of waves in this collection as well, inspired by the sounds of the sea and the forms that waves take, in the sofas and tables. Care: Wipe gently with dry soft cloth. Liquid spillage must be wiped without delay. "Celebration of Authenticity": Slight variations or imperfections are the marks of an artisan, a testament to the individuality, emotion and originality of each work of art. We assert our right to make meaningful qualitative changes. Please note: Prices do not include VAT. VAT may be applied depending on the ship-to location.

Verdoux Storage Bar Cabinet by Matteo Cibic
By Matteo Cibic, Scarlet Splendour
Located in Kolkata, IN
Verdoux Storage Bar Cabinet by Matteo Cibic is an amazing cabinet, with fine leather interiors, designed to hold a full bar. Available in different patterns and colours, with customised sizes upon request. India's handicrafts are as multifarious as its cultures, and as rich as its history. The art of bone and horn inlay is omnipresent here. Artisans from the Northern region of Sarai Tarin, to Bengal in the East, and Trivandrum in the South, have imbibed the ancient technique from Himalayan tribes, and have made their own mark along the way. The intricately crafted combs, vases, toys, and other objets d'art have long been a connoisseur's delight, and a means of livelihood for millions. When the founders of Scarlet Splendour and designer Matteo Cibic went on tour, in search of inspiration for their first collection, they were captivated by the exquisite bone marquetry. They decided to make a contemporary version of the playfully geometric designs, which would be accepted across the world. Cibic then developed a resin compound, and the company carried out trials with the material until they found the right mix. The resin would replicate ivory inlay, on a base of plywood, ultimately smoothened and lacquered to have no visible or tactile end. Each piece of the Vanilla Noir collection would then be made in India, by local craftsmen using locally sourced materials and pigments. The aim was to combine Indian workmanship and Western aesthetic in such a way that each piece appears timeless, and with multiple roots. In the unique decorative imprints one would recognize Indian styles, and also unexpected drifts to Italian design. The company's founders wanted to proudly showcase the fine art and making capabilities of their native India, and give the craftsmen due recognition. They have successfully paid homage to their heritage by elevating indigenous art...

Coil #5 Cabinet by Bram Kerkhofs
Located in Geneve, CH
Coil #5 cabinet by Bram Kerkhofs Dimensions: D80 x W40 x H225.6cm Materials: stainless steel, aluminium, elastic rope (natural rubber, polyethylene). Other dimensions are available. Coil is a modular cabinet system in which the ‘shell’ is formed completely around a base as a semi-transparent curtain from a vertical and parallel woven elastic rope. It forms the middle between a classic open rack and a display cabinet and can be used on all sides. Coil redefines the cabinet as an object in its use. To put something in or to get it out, the elastics have to be pushed aside. Coil is a good example to clarify my dealings with materials and their properties. To be able to attach the elastic rope, the rope must be stretched so that the rope becomes thinner. The top and bottom shelf of the cabinet are provided with a specific cut-out curve at the edge so that the stretched elastic can be inserted, after which it relaxes nicely in the recessed opening. Due to its modular construction, the coil can vary in height by 40 cm each. The inner shelves are slightly smaller. This keeps them away from the screen. Coil has a fixed rounded rectangular format of 40 x 80 cm (W x H) and can be combined with quarter circle modules with a radius of 40 and 80 cm. This makes it possible to build freestanding walls as a composition of curved and straight forms, as functional room dividers. Bram Kerkhofs (° 1977) is a Belgian furniture designer looking for new forms and methods to challenge the functionality and flexibility of a furniture piece. Educated as a goldsmith he is fascinated by connections, hinges, knots and joints, and especially by the functional opportunities they generate. His work is filled with mathematical principles resulting in intelligible algorithms to make them understandable. He draws particular attention to the relationship between construction and material, bringing simplicity into complexity, with a lasting alertness to the final function. This time-intensive design and development process results in innovative construction systems automatically expressing his signature. Many of his designs must be seen in a bigger picture, as parts to a whole, in which he explores the endless possibilities for links, combinations and variations. Bram wants to clarify complex constructions and gives the consumer and the spectator insight into his thinking process. That is why his work partly revolves around people, as the manipulators...
