French 18th Century Louis XV Period Commode or Chest of Drawers

About the Item

A fine 18th century Louis XV period commode from the town of Nîmes in Provence. Made of solid walnut with serpentine front and raised panels on the sides. Pegged construction with waxed finish. Beautiful hand carved foliate decoration including an elaborate pierced apron and large acanthus leaves on the front corners. Four curved legs ending in scroll toes. Two large dovetailed drawers provide ample storage. Working locks and two keys. The bronze hardware is in the style of the period but is new. The top has been replaced at some point.
