Fronte e fianchi riccamente intagliati con motivi a ricciolo e a rocaille e montanti intagliati con festoni fitomorfi, mascherone sulla piattaia e protome virile posta tra le ante della base. Italia ultimo quarto XVIII secolo

Neoclassical bedside table late 18th century Lombardy. The cabinet is veneered in rosewood, maple, boxwood, and other light-colored woods for inlays; both the front in which the door is housed and the sides are made with a lowered central panel in rosewood, with an octagonal reserve in the center enclosed by an inlaid molded frame; the reserves on a maple background feature architectural inlay with whimsy, temples, statues, and figures. The panels are set in double frames with brass-plated cornices and rosewood veneer arranged head-on and herringbone. An inlaid frame in the base borders the four truncated pyramid feet, and another supports the top in which an alps green marble top is embedded. Lacks and restorations, walnut interior. Walnut credenza handcrafted in Italy in the mid 1700s and bleached recently. Don't let its delicate overall appearance fool you because, as my lower back can attest, this baby is heavy. This is a beautiful credenza that follow the typical italian style with slanted sides, which create small triangular storage spaces on either sides of the two main front doors and drawer. Overall the credenza is very straight in lines. The drawers have flat overlay fronts, and the doors show chamfered panels with a raised carving and are framed by flat molding. The carving and molding help giving the piece some depth and decoration. The bleaching process also provided the credenza with additional warmth, depth and decoration, by bringing out the beautiful grain and underlying colors of the wood. The top of the credenza is composed of boards with ogee edge nailed to the main case. On the inside the credenza is very spacious, providing plenty of storage space. Overall this is a beautiful piece that has lived a long life, and has received some help in "hanging in there" over the years. This is a piece that will fit well with both modern and...

Handsome 18th Century Italian Carved-Walnut Credenza Cabinet

An Italian carved walnut wood buffet credenza from the 18th century. This antique sideboard from Italy features rich walnut wood which has been carved with raised decorative cartouche plaques, in varying designs, about the front face. This piece has a rectangular-shaped top which slightly overhangs the case that is fitted with three small drawers set horizontally above a pair of doors at bottom (which open to a shelf on the inside, maximizing the storage potential of this piece). This chest is presented upon a pair of rail legs at either end with accolade carved skirt, turning to bracket-style front feet, and a single shapely carved foot/brace at front center of skirt that adds just enough lift/space between the case and the floor. The dark, rich wood has a wonderful old patina throughout; a showing of its centuries old age. Note that there have been prior repairs at the side and there is a slight bowing at top.
