A scarce French Provincial Louis XV (1715-1774) / Louis XVI (1774-1792) Period mixed wood religious oratory (prie-dieu / altar) Hand-crafted in France in the 18th century, with later 19th century elements, likely originating in the south of France / Mediterranean region, featuring pegged solid wooden construction of warm, rich fruitwood, chesnut, oak, and maple. Having a slant-front bureau with tall raised back decorated with three Renaissance Revival style high relief panels, the center depicting religious scene comprising Jesus and winged Saint, the side panels with foliate floral fruit pendant carvings, flanked by classical turned baluster-form columns, surmounted with highly stylized hand carved and turned finials. Over a slant-front with star parquetry, the hinged drop-front opens to reveal a distressed leather writing desk / lectern / pulpit on which the holy books can be laid open and allows to shelter the books, which were considered precious goods at that time. The lower sacristy cabinet has a pair of slide-out supports flanking a paneled cupboard door decorated with a large stepped base Christian cross parquetry inlay, affixed with later decorative forged iron faux escutcheon overtop. This elegant, antique two-piece Bargueno or Vargueno was crafted in Spain, circa 1820. The cabinet standing on round feet sits on a table base with carved turned legs and embellished with a decorative wrought iron stretcher. The cabinet with side handles is beautifully ornate with six drawers with tortoiseshell inlay decor, and a center door dressed with side columns and revealing four additional inside drawers. An Italian carved walnut wood buffet credenza from the 18th century. This antique sideboard from Italy features rich walnut wood which has been carved with raised decorative cartouche plaques, in varying designs, about the front face. This piece has a rectangular-shaped top which slightly overhangs the case that is fitted with three small drawers set horizontally above a pair of doors at bottom (which open to a shelf on the inside, maximizing the storage potential of this piece). This chest is presented upon a pair of rail legs at either end with accolade carved skirt, turning to bracket-style front feet, and a single shapely carved foot/brace at front center of skirt that adds just enough lift/space between the case and the floor. The dark, rich wood has a wonderful old patina throughout; a showing of its centuries old age. Note that there have been prior repairs at the side and there is a slight bowing at top. Antique walnut trumeau, with curved and carved doors, complete with internal shelves and moved drawers, built and sculpted entirely by hand by an artisan in the 18th century in Italy, from Piedmont, measuring cm W 126 x H 247 x T max 54. Very beautiful and elegant, it has a flap opening for a desk and then 3 drawers, very containing, refined and of great classic antique taste.
