18th Century French Carved Oak Tabernacle Curiosity Cabinet
About the Item
A rustic antique French Baroque carved oak tabernacle curiosity cabinet, 18th century or earlier, having an architectural form with elaborate molded cornice, over central niche, surrounded by nine drawers with hand-cut dovetail joinery, Neoclassical garland swag reliefs and brass pulls. The left and right side row of drawers feature a concealed wooden locking mechanism with handles inside the niche, rising on bun feet. Designed to be placed atop a table or chest of drawers, it can also be placed freestanding on the floor.

Good original unrestored antique condition with beautifully aged warm rustic heavily worn distressed patina. Wear consistent with age and use, including scattered nicks, chips and losses. Later wire mesh door inset and no lock. Italian chest of drawers commode and Santo altar figure not included / available separately
