Walnut, Koa Credenza W/ Sculptural Legs by Thomas Throop/ Black Creek Designs
By Black Creek Designs LLC
Located in New Canaan, CT
The Laguna credenza is a study in contrast and form. The rectilinear cabinet balances elegantly on six energetic legs full of movement. The six doors feature the prominent rift sawn grain of rare iridescent Hawaiian koa which is framed by the solid walnut case. The base is comprised of six sculptural hand shaped legs which are joined to create two pedestals which supports the cabinet above. The legs have been ebonized to visually ground the piece and heighten the overall sense of contrast and richness of the walnut and koa. Each door handle is a custom shaped piece of three thousand year old bog oak. The credenza is comprised of three compartments with adjustable shelves. Each element is shaped, joined and finished so as to create a united design. The Laguna credenza is designed and made at the Black Creek Designs studio in New Canaan, CT by Thomas Throop...

Jim Rose Steel Furniture - Four Drawer Gee's Bend Blue Strip Quilt Cupboard
By Jim Rose
Located in Chicago, IL
This totally functional modern industrial cabinet is created from hot-rolled steel and found painted panels. The panels on the drawer fronts and sides are created from strips of blue painted salvaged and recycled steel. This unique custom piece is a model of sustainable design. The pattern is inspired by the Quilts of Gee's Bend Alabama. This piece is available as pictured. Jim Rose Four drawer strip quilt counter hot roll and found painted steel Measures: 35.50 H x 51 W x 16 D in 90.17 H x 129.54 W x 40.64 D cm Jim Rose b. 1966, d. 2023 Bio Born in Indiana, Jim Rose lived in Europe until he returned to the United States to attend college. After one year at Bard College, Jim transferred to the School of the Art Institute in Chicago (SAIC) where he graduated in 1988 with a BFA. His skillful interpretation of the Shaker design is a result of intense research and field study of Shaker furniture, architecture, culture and history. After over two decades of dedicated work, he has mastered the minimalism of the Shaker technique and created his own unique visual vernacular. The quilts of Gee's Bend have become a monumental influence taking this artist's work to new levels of unique interpretation and artistry. His selection of aged steel results in a patina directly related to that of aged wood while his colored strips beautifully mimic worn cloth. Each piece of furniture is masterfully made and intended for daily use. Jim Rose’s steel furniture is featured every year at SOFA Chicago for the past 25 years. Jim Rose Education 1989 B.F.A., Sculpture, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, IL 1988 Student at Large, Welding Technology, Triton College, Chicago, IL 1985 Undergraduate Photography Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York Awards 2008 Wisconsin Arts Board Fellowship Award, Madison, WI 2005 Elizabeth R.
