About the Item

A Louis XVI secretary desk in mahogany with satinwood inlays. Offers a cylinder top that opens to reveal a series of small drawers surrounding a closed cubby by pulling on the writing surface by way of two brass pulls. Above desk top is a tambour door with open compartments. Three drawers of staggered depths follow underneath desk. Northern Europe, circa 1790-1810. Note: You should always request a shipping quote. Quoted amounts are an estimate of what it might cost to ship out to you based on destinations of the greatest distance. We would love to find you a better quote if possible. Measures: 48" wide x 23 1/2" deep x 60 1/4" high, 35 1/3" deep when writing surface is open, writing surface is 31 1/2" from the floor when open. Note: Existing original mechanism is counter-weighted for easy opening and closing. Offers antique brass key plates and pulls which may not necessarily be original to the piece, but are handsome, satinwood line-inlay design on drawers and cylinder top, all working locks, split columns with original ormolu capitals, old leather with blind tooling.
