About the Item

Wonderful Gothic Revival desk with an amazing presence and patina. If you like Gothic Revival furniture then we are certain you will like this quality made and quality carved Gothic desk. This fine and practical specimen comes with very attractive, church-window-like panels. This intricate oak desk comes with four wonderful and deeply hand carved Gothic knight sculptures. Standing on pillars on either side of each of the two cabinet doors, they are like the gatekeepers to this marvelous desk. On the sides are perfectly matching, geometric oak panels, on the back too are church window like patterns, at the bottom are Gothic style leaf patterns and all around the top (just below the desk top) too are finely hand carved Gothic rosettes, making this one of the most intricately carved Gothic desks you will ever find. Have you also noticed the unique wrought iron hinges? They are like Gothic spires, but then sideways. In the left cabinet/compartment are two evenly divided tiers for storing all kinds and the cabinet on the right is like a filing cabinet. This is not a 16th century piece, but this early 20th century Gothic Revival antique was made in the exact same manner, using the exact same skills with wooden pin and hole connections. It stands as strong and stable as the day it was handcrafted and in another 100 years time it still will. Apart from a few minor imperfections, this antique desk is in very good condition (both inside and out) and we expect that it will be gracing a new owner's home or office soon. Especially at our price. Mind you, our price for this Gothic desk includes perfect packing (in a custom made crate) and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 workdays. We are delighted to offer for sale this exceptionally rare Gothic Revival circa 1840 solid oak partner desk with top drawer writing slope and side bookcases made by either Gillows of Lancaster or Pugin Where to begin, this desk has been on a journey, when I first received the piece it looked like it had been French polished and waxed around 20 times, it had a very clumpy sticky finish, my restorers have stripped back all that horrible guck, they have then lightly stained and French polished it the correct way which has kept all the period patina and simply made it golden, The leather top and writing slope top has been replaced with fully aniline natural cattle hide leather that was plain, I’ve then had my leather polishers dye it this gorgeous whisky brown colour.
