About the Item
A beautiful 19th century Swedish secretary desk, crafted from a combination of oak and pine, finished in a matte black exterior with worn edges that reveal traces of the wood beneath, subtle signs of its age and authenticity. The fall-front writing surface is secured with a working lock and features a molded decorative panel. When opened, it reveals a wonderfully unexpected pop of color: a bright turquoise-blue painted interior that enlivens the piece with playful contrast.
Inside are six petite drawers with brass knobs, arranged in a charming cascade formation, alongside eight compartments in varying sizes and a central storage cubby closed with a small door, perfect for organizing letters, documents, and personal treasures.
Below the writing section are four tiers housing five drawers, each fitted with original brass handles and working locks. The base features shaped bracket feet that provide visual weight and balance, enhancing the piece’s overall silhouette.
Robust yet graceful, this Swedish secretary blends utility and elegance, making it ideal for a home office, entryway, or even a bedroom. A unique antique full of charm, contrast, and craftsmanship.
