Black Painted Baroque Swedish Oak Secretary Bureau, circa 1780-1810

About the Item

This striking oak secretary is an elegant statement piece crowned with a curved bonnet. Note the heavily carved panel doors and the large curvaceous lower three serpentine drawers. The entire secretary has been given a professional custom layered black painted finish which has been gently distressed to reveal the original oak underneath, adding both dimension and character to this bureau. Please examine the photos to appreciate the beauty and texture of the lovely finish. The middle section (with contrasting blue painted interior) is the traditional desk which includes a multitude of petite drawers which are revealed when the desktop is opened and rests on the two extending arm rests. The upper section has 2 cabinet doors which opens to reveal central shelving and two drawers. The notched middle shelf originally served as a spoon rack for fine silver. The lock for upper exterior door still functions and original key is included. Desk is easier to open simply using same key as a pull. While there are two keys for the lower drawers, they are easier to open using the two brass pulls on each. This painted secretary is restored, solid/stable and ready to be used. It is built in two sections allowing for easier transportation and installation; original heavy brass handles at sides of base cabinet. All scratches, cracks, dings, and age related separation (see back and typical in drawer bottoms) are reflective of age/use and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this striking secretary. Please refer to professional photos for clear understanding of color, condition, and details; photo lighting, individual monitor display and home lighting all impact how item is viewed. Photos are part of item description, please ask questions or request additional photos of specific areas if needed.
