Antique mid 19th century Dutch honey color oak Biedermeier Secretary Desk

About the Item

Offered here is a stunning Dutch secretary desk in the Biedermeier style, crafted in the mid-19th century, around 1840. This exquisite piece is made entirely from the finest quality European summer oak, featuring a beautiful, compact grain pattern. The elegant standing desk rests on turned feet and includes three spacious drawers above them. Above the drawers is a hinged writing surface with a recessed panel. This flap is adorned with a convex-concave cut edge, characteristic of the Biedermeier style. Behind the writing flap, there is a beautifully designed interior with a centrally placed compartment flanked by three drawers on each side. Above this is an open space with a wide drawer above it. Additionally, there is an extra drawer above the flap, topped with a finely hand-carved crown flanked by two turned finials. The desk is in very good authentic condition. The finely-grained oak has a light blonde honey color and has been finished with several layers of shellac, giving the wood a deep, rich shine. Over the years, the desk has acquired subtle signs of use and a rich patina. The key plates and drawer pulls of the interior are made of bone. All locks are fully functional and come with matching keys. This piece is a true masterpiece, evident in the exquisite oak, the quality of the carvings, and the overall execution of the desk. The desk has been gently cleaned in our workshop and treated with a protective wax layer. It is clean, solid, and ready for use.
