About the Item

Early 20th Century fine quality English Art Deco Period Secretary by renowned cabinetmakers Merryweather and Sons, London. A streamlined upper case with glass doors opens to storage with three adjustable shelves. The slant front desk contains a fitted interior with pigeon holes around a central drawer and the drop front lays open offering an ample workspace and writing table. Below are two drawers flanked by solid rectangular paneled legs with rounded edges, characteristic of Art Deco design. The secretary is veneered in a stunning burl walnut and has a checkerboard banding along the bottom apron. Exceptional original hardware accents the piece including a lock and key to the bookcase. A label stamped with the maker, Merryweather Holloway London, can be found inside the top drawer. Also included in the sale is a matching Art Deco period stool of burled walnut with legs in the same style holding a seat upholstered in a chartreuse silk and trimmed along the edge. The seat flips up revealing a generous storage compartment beneath. The overall measurements of the secretary are 75" tall x 18" deep x 31" wide. The desk space is 22.75" wide with a 13.5" dropfront that opens for a total workspace depth of 30". The stool measures 21" tall (arms) 18" tall (seat) x 14.5" deep x 22" wide. The seat interior depth is 13" and the interior width is 18".
