Circa 1815 French Empire Secrétaire à Abattant
About the Item
Circa 1815 French Empire Secrétaire à Abattant. Mahogany with mahogany & oak secondary wood. Ingenious hidden drawers & locking mechanisms. Bronze mounted columns flank the front with cinching at the waist of the upper section; wonderful quality mounts on the frieze of the upper drawer & at the ends surmounting the columns, as well as the secretaire drop down door escutcheon. Well fitted interior includes mirrored open section flanked by columns & writing drawer. Replaced veined green marble & leather writing surface. Minor loss to top of central bronze mount on lower doors & left faux escutcheon mount possibly replaced. 18" d., 39 1/8" w., 56.5" h.

A statley 19th century mahogany secre´taire a` abattant from France, circa 1810. This desk has an exceptional charcoal marble top resting above a single drawer disguised into the apron. Just below the top drawer, the front of the desk folds forward to reveal a work area inset with vibrant red leather detailed with gold tooling.
