Early 19th Century American Tigerwood Maple Secretaire
About the Item
This Early 19th Century American Tigerwood Maple Secretaire. The desk features a drop-front green felted writing surface above a chest of three width-wide drawers below. A pair of hinged doors reveal open cubbies above three small drawers for additional storage. The brass hardware is original to the piece. This style of desk was prevalent in the United States from roughly 1780-1830 and is characterized by its clean lines, symmetry, and restrained ornamentation.
The desk displays minor surface scratches and wear consistent with age and use. There is some slight variation in the wood's coloration, due to natural aging. Evidence of re-glueing on slant front edge. Good overall condition.
