About the Item

An exquisite early 19th century French Empire secretary, meticulously restored and sourced from Paris, France. Masterfully hand-crafted from rich mahogany, the piece is topped with its original Italian black marble featuring elegant white veining. The structure has been fully restored and gently refinished to highlight the depth and movement of the aged wood grain. Just below the marble sits a storage drawer with its original lock and key, followed by a slant front door adorned with a mirrored fall front, also retaining its original lock and key. The interior reveals a beautifully fitted arrangement of five drawers with dovetail joinery and original metal knobs. The writing surface has been newly restored with fine green Italian leather, adding a refined touch. The outset base features an additional drawer and stands on classic columnar legs joined by an in-curved plinth. It comes with one original key that operates all the locks. Solid, stable, and crafted with exceptional joinery, this piece exemplifies the timeless sophistication of the French Empire period. - Origin: Paris, France - Dimensions: W 32.5" x D 18" x H 53.5"/ table top height 29.75" - apron clearance 25" - Condition: The table has been structurally revised and gently refinished, retaining its authentic age-related character, including minor dents and chips.
