Early 19th Century Swedish Folk Art Writing Bureau or Secretaire

About the Item

Painted writing bureau or secretaire from Sweden made during the early 1800s, 1810 to 1820. The bureau is a folk art furniture from the area Hälsingland in Sweden and is made in gustavian style. The bureau is a prime example of the Swedish gustavian period with clean, elegant lines and a timeless expression. A fun detail is the secret compartment hidden in the middle of the interior, see picture. This bureau is a solid antique furniture with a few extra details that makes it even more special. The bureau is painted with the original paint. An unusual faux paint which extends across the whole front, to the interior drawers and writing desk. The top is also marbled in contrasting tones. For this piece the paint is the showstopper. The time and attention to detail is something special and it makes the bureau a stand-out, one-of-a-kind furniture. The faux paint is unique and done completely by hand. And to finish off there are gold vines painted across the edges of the drawers and writing desk for an even more grand and captivating result. Made in Swedish pine with high-quality craftsmanship. The bureau has a lock to the writing desk and intrior and the key is still present. The key to the larger drawers is missing and the lock to the interior door is also not present. Healthy and solid. Height to writing desk is 82 cm and depth is 53 and 29 cm respectively.
