Elegant Mahogany Empire Secretary Desk with Satinwood Intarsia

About the Item

This small charming Empire secretary desk, crafted in Copenhagen around 1810, consists of three sections. The upper section has three doors: a large concave door in the center, flanked by two smaller doors. Above the doors is a stepped, triangular top with rich satinwood intarsia, featuring motifs of a woman, cherubs, animals, birds, and foliage. The lower section includes a cylinder roll-top, revealing numerous small drawers veneered in satinwood with geometric intarsia patterns in light and dark wood. Drawer pulls made of bone. The top drawer extends to create a writing surface (75 cm when fully extended). The middle panel of the writing surface lifts and is lined with green leather. Both sides are fitted with sliding maple panels that open to reveal storage compartments. Preserved in original, untouched condition. Copenhagen, Denmark, ca. 1810. Measurements H: 193 W: 105 D: 54 (Top section: 30) Item is in two pieces.
