English Georgian Style Oak Marquetry Drop Front Secretary Desk
About the Item
Distinctive English Georgian fall front or drop front secretaire desk crafted from oak. The secretary features lovely marquetry inlay on the slanted front and the drawer fronts. The slant front opens to reveal a 36 inch wide by 21 inch deep writing table. The desk is 31 inches high and fitted with 8 small drawers, 2 pigeon holes, 2 hidden drawers, and one center door with a star motif inlay that matches the slant front door. The case is fitted with 4 storage drawers each having border inlay, metal ring pulls, and lock hardware but no key available. The secretaire has a lovely aged patina on the oak with a warm dark honeyed tone. Very heavy and solid construction. From an estate in the Napa Valley, CA.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Beautifully crafted with strong, solid joinery and construction. Age appropriate wear and fading as seen in photos. Minor chips, losses, stains, scuffs, scratches, shrinkage and natural age cracks as expected. One ring pull is missing from drawer.

Fantastic late 19th century Italian secretaire cabinet or bookcase made in the Venetian Rococo taste. Crafted from walnut the two-part case features a speckled lacquer finish centered by a cartouche shaped window with a painted bust by artist Ira Yeager (American 1938-2022). The bureau cabinet has a bombe shaped dresser base with a drop front diminutive writing table. The drop front has two storage drawers and a small pigeon hole storage above. Below the desk are two small drawers and two large storage drawers with rocaille patinated brass pulls. The dresser is supported by small cabriole legs with scrolled feet. The dresser is surmounted by a bookcase with a painted door depicting a nobleman holding a chicken. The painting is painted on board titled "Venezia" and signed by Yeager with a fictitious date of 1725. The door opens to a three-shelf bookcase.
