About the Item

An incredible Brutalist floating sideboard cabinet by the noted Pennsylvania artist Murrie Gayman. This Studio piece is crafted out of walnut with inset slate slabs on top and doors of welded bronze, steel, iron and some other mixed metals. The interior of the sideboard is covered in orange/red felt. There are six doors and three openings. The left most is divided in half and has two felted silverware drawers on top and two shelves below. The center section has one shelf. The right section is divided in half and has one drawer and two shelves. The drawer is just coated in felt on the bottom. I personally spoke to the artist who confirmed it was his work and that it was commissioned in the early 1980’s. He described how he was very much influenced by George Nakashima and Paul Evan’s whose studios were close to his home near New Hope Pennsylvania and he visited them in the 1970’s. The cabinet attaches to a wall via a large cleat on the back. It is approximately 108 inches long and 23 inches deep. The actual height of the cabinet itself is 26.5 inches. It can be mounted at any height to achieve any desired total height. The doors of the cabinet are in remarkably good condition. The slate is good. The walnut is good as well but along the edges there are a few nicks and marks that been touched up over the years. All in all a remarkable piece of furniture.
