About the Item

Giovanni Ceccarelli and Giancarlo Patuzzi for Gruppo NP2, pair of coffee tables, black enameled wood, zinc, Italy, circa 1975 These coffee or side tables, created by the renowned Gruppo NP2, have a compelling and interesting design. The tables are based on a rectangular shape with closed legs that mirror the width of the table's top. The sides showcase a stunning display of zinc lines that are intricately engraved. The black lacquered wood base creates an alluring contrast with the brightness of the geometric zinc pattern. Giovanni Ceccarelli, or Nerone, was born in Pisa in 1937. After attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and Florence, he moved to Turin where he continued to live and work throughout his life. Nonetheless, he did travel extensively to many different countries around the world. In 1962, Nerone, together with his friend and fellow student Giancarlo Patuzzi, established Gruppo NP2. The group created work together until 1974. During this period, the two cooperated internationally, receiving many awards and collaborating with other artists as well. In their creations, they experimented a lot by using different materials. They made monumental sculptures as well as furniture and panels, working with metals, marble, concrete and wood. Their intention was to free art and produce something that was not limited inside galleries or museums, to make something that could become an important part of daily life. For that period, this idea was revolutionary. Unfortunately, due to different ideas, the eventually departed ways. However, Nerone never stopped creating his own work and, up until his death in 1996, he constructed panels and sculptures. Please note that these items are in good, used condition with some signs of age and use. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.

Giulio Lazzotti Megeia coffee table pair Italy 1979
By Giulio Lazzotti
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Nice pair of coffee tables by Gulio Lazzotti and manufactured by Megeia, italy 1979. The base consists of four marble columns with beautiful cut lining. Three black and one white. Two black columns are shaped like half a cylinder. The other two are two cylinders with a diameter which perfectly fits in the half parts, a nice visual detail. The bases can be put in a playful position to your wishes. The large square tops are from thick glass. The tables are in excellent condition. Priced and sold in a set of 2. This Postmodern design resembles the relationship between ancient masonry skills and applying these traditions in modern forms. Like some other Italian designers, Lazzotti in particular has an innovative approach towards experimenting with form, especially in stone and marble, and applying these mainly into tables. Giulio Lazzotti is an Italian designer and architect who has always given an important place to objects’s sculptural dimension. A great lover of marble, his work is modern, reconciliating a sense of craftsmanship with industrial production. Often hired as a consultant for his experience, Giulio shares his attention to detail throughout the world and collaborates with major furniture brands. The name of the town where Giulio Lazzotti lives and works, Pietrasanta, can be alternately translated as Saint Peter or “holy stone,” the latter being wholly appropriate for a designer and architect whose work in marble, metal and wood takes on a serene, sculptural presence. Lazzotti was educated at the prestigious University of Florence, where he later returned to teach architecture. Since 1975, Lazzotti has maintained a diverse practice encompassing architecture, interior design and furniture design, winning such awards as first prize for Design at the Moving Fair of Paris, the Torre Guinigi prize in Lucca for Urban Design for the historical center of Pietrasanta, a top ten in the International Chair...
