Tatami Tables, Japanese Straw Weaving with Eastern Marquetry
About the Item
Inspired by the vibrant colors of modern Japan, the tatami tables are made of a traditional straw weaving technique typical of Japanese flooring framed with the craft of Marquetry. These multifunctional pieces can easily shift from table to a bench.

A fresh blend of Middle Eastern and far eastern craftsmanship in the ‘tatami tables’ collection. Through a colorful combination, the project reinterprets or rather reintroduces local furniture design for contemporary interiors.
Tor this collection the designer combined the traditional straw weaving technique typical of Japanese flooring, with the old craft of Marquetry which was often used for classical old pieces. In the end, the set includes color gradient pieces with flexible functions shifting between a table or a bench.
Available in the following color selection: Pink, yellow, green, blue, or brown.

Nada Debs
A native of Lebanon, Nada Debs grew up in Japan and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. Today, she lives and works in Beirut, where she leads a team of 20 people and works across disciplines, from product and furniture design to craft, art, fashion and interiors.
“My aim has always been to start with traditional techniques and skills and then inject a bit of life and fun into them by taking a more contemporary approach,” Debs says. “Ultimately, my brand is about reinventing craft and placing it within a modern context. I strive not only to preserve traditional craftsmanship but also to widen design boundaries while continuing to preserve inherent core values. I refer to this process as ‘handmade, heartmade.’”
