Thai Bronze Rain Drum W/Frog Accents

About the Item

A Thai rain drum with sun and frog accents, from the mid 20th century. This vintage rain drum from Thailand, created from cast bronze, features a round-shaped top which is adorn with a sun at center, within concentric bands (said to represent the Wheel of Dharma in the teachings of Buddha). Four sets of frogs add further embellishment to the top, each set featuring a pair of frogs; one sitting upon the back of the other. A hollow and rounded body supports the top, fitted with side handles (to aid with carrying or hanging of the drum) and is also adorn in concentric bands about its exterior. The bronze has a wonderful patina throughout. This Thai rain drum, originally meant to be hung and banged on to summon rain, will make a wonderful decorative object for your home or patio, and could also function as a unique side or small coffee table- a great piece to inspire thoughtful conversation!
