About the Item

Carlo De Carli “180” dining table for Sormani, rosewood, Italy, 1971. The "180" dining table, designed by Carlo De Carli for Sormani in 1971, is a masterpiece of minimalist elegance and architectural thought. This round table features a single pedestal, offering a lighter interpretation of the traditional drum table. Crafted from luxurious rosewood, the table's structure and top are supported by a wooden base with a nickel-plated brass profile. The design of the table is inspired by the elegance of Kayan women, with its concentric, gradually decreasing circular slabs creating a harmonious degradè form that converges towards the center. This visual effect enhances the table's aesthetic appeal while providing a sense of stability and dynamic balance. Carlo De Carli, a follower and friend of Gio Ponti, invites us to reflect on the essence of architecture, emphasizing how space is created and how it accommodates human life. De Carli and Ponti collaborated on several projects, including the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Turin and the Pirelli Tower in Milan, showcasing their shared vision of architectural innovation. Our atelier offers custom restoration and special reupholstering on request. Contact us to create the object you desire.
