About the Item

An exquisite French 19th century Louis XV st. Napoleon III period exotic wood and ormolu side table. The scalloped shaped table is raised by elegant cabriole legs with exceptional scrolled fitted ormolu sabots and striking chutes leading up each leg to richly chased pierced foliate corner mounts in a superb satin and burnished finish. A fine ormolu chute with intricately detailed foliate designs extends up each leg and along the beautiful arbalest shaped apron which displays one central drawer and stunning masterfully inlaid floral marquetry in an array of extremely decorative exotic woods. The drawer opens with its unique original key to reveal all the original hardware, fitted leather writing surface which slides back, and the original fitted ormolu inkwell and ponce holder. Above is the spectacular inlaid floral marquetry top with additional charming intricately detailed flowers with an elegant wrap around ormolu gallery at the border. All original gilt throughout.
