About the Item

One of the most recent group of CaCO3 works is the series entitled "Alveolizzazioni". Alveolizzazione is the Italian term for the erosion of stone by natural elements. Typically in porous stone such as sandstone, this natural process causes cavitation to occur - alveolo meaning cavity or cell. For this artwork, CaCO3 uses several layers of cement, mortar, stucco or plaster which are hand-pierced, eroded mechanically and successively polished. Small cavities distributed on the surface create a contrasting "chiaroscuro" effect, whilst holes of different diameters, depth and inclination replicate the natural, organic surfaces of weathered historical monuments.
