18th Century Italian Architectural Pediment and Barnacled Chesapecten Shells

About the Item

18th century Italian architectural pediment decorated with chesapecten jeffersonius shells with barnacles and crystal quartz points. The 18th century architectural pediment originally came from Florence. There are traces of gold leaf still on the pediment, establishing the fact that it was once part of an important palazzo. It is an architectural element found particularly in Classical, neoclassical and Baroque architecture. The chesapecten shells are said to be 5 million-years-old. Together they create a unique and historically significant wall decoration - interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
