About the Item

18th century Italian hand-carved gold leaf architectural element with a pair of hand-cast plaster angels, a plaster rosette, and a detail plaster cornice molding. It is adorned with coordinating white fossil shells and gold baroque pearls. The gilded architectural element was originally created for a historic Italian church and has a hand-carved sunray beaming from the center. There is proper hardware placed on the back of the piece so the piece can hang on a wall. The sculptural plaster cherubs are placed onto each side of the architectural element and fit perfectly as it they were created for the piece. The cornice molding crowns the top of the piece and the plaster rosette is placed on the bottom. The piece is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she transformed the piece and the period shows that the Italian architectural element is originally 18th century. The Italian artifact, hand-cast plaster elements and fossil shells and baroque pearls are put together to create a large sculptural work of old and new - creating a historically and organically significant work of art to adorn any wall or grace any space.

18th Century Italian 'Florence Fragment' with a Chalcedony Rosette
By Interi
Located in Dublin, Dalkey
17th century Italian fragment with a chalcedony rosette. It has antique hand-written Italian inscriptions on the base. The chalcedony mineral mimics the color and texture of the distressed wood fragment. This fragment is from a church in Florence. It was found and saved from the historic Florence Flood of 1966. This was one of the worst floods recorded since the Renaissance and drew thousands of volunteers from all over the world to help save the city known for its precious history, artwork, artifacts, and rare books. The volunteers were called "the mud angels" because of the mud and silt left everything from the damage of the flood. There is still the original paint and silt left on the piece to uphold the integrity, craftmanship, and history of sculptural fragment. The story and history of this piece and Interi's collection of Florence fragments...
