Pair of George III Glomyized Glass Mythological Silk Pictures of Eros & Psyche

About the Item

Pair of George III Glomyized Glass Mythological Silk Pictures of Eros & Psyche Dating to early late 19th century From a private collection Eros and Psyche are figures from ancient Greek mythology, and their story is often referred to as "Cupid and Psyche" in Roman mythology. The tale is a love story that explores themes of love, trust, and personal growth. Eros, also known as Cupid in Roman mythology, is the god of love and desire. He is often depicted as a winged young man with a bow and arrows, which he uses to make people fall in love. Psyche, on the other hand, is a mortal princess known for her beauty. She is the youngest and most beautiful of three sisters, but her extraordinary beauty leads to jealousy and rivalry. The story of Eros and Psyche unfolds when Psyche's beauty attracts the attention of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, who becomes jealous of her. As a result, Aphrodite orders Eros to make Psyche fall in love with the ugliest creature on Earth. However, Eros accidentally pricks himself with his own arrow and falls in love with Psyche. The tale involves trials and tribulations for Psyche as she undergoes a series of tasks assigned by Aphrodite, tasks that are seemingly impossible. Eros, however, secretly helps her along the way. Ultimately, the love between Eros and Psyche prevails, and Psyche is transformed into an immortal, making her the goddess of the soul. The story of Eros and Psyche is often interpreted as an allegory of the soul's journey toward love and self-realization. It has inspired various works of art, literature, and psychology throughout the centuries. Free international shipping.
