About the Item

Fabulous 1980-1990 Joseph Barber framed American landscape pastel and watercolor painting on paper. The artist's signature is visible in the bottom right corner. The artwork depicts a village road shaded by maple and poplar trees in their autumn foliage, a prominent arch bridge spanning across a body of water, with buildings beneath. It's presented in a simple, medium-toned poplar wood frame that complements the artwork without distracting from its vibrant colors. This artwork is a breathtaking piece of collectible art. Joseph Barber was an American artist, born in New York in 1915, and studied at various art schools, including the Grand Central Art School and the Art Students' League in New York City, and the Taos Art School in New Mexico. He gained recognition and awards during his lifetime for his modernist landscape paintings, including prizes from the Berkshire Museum, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design, and the National Institute of Arts and Letters. He painted landscapes using various mediums, including watercolors, acrylics, and oils. His style, although representational, incorporated modernist elements and showed a clear influence of Cubism in his use of colors and geometric forms. His paintings depicted scenes from his remembrances, feelings, and atmosphere. After his passing in 1998, regional galleries continued to exhibit his work.
