A very fine portrait of a young beauty with dark, flowing locks, cherry lips, and piercing blue eyes. She sits at a slight angle, in a pensive pose, wearing a frilled pinafore and white chemise, the plain pale grey of the backdrop ensuring that the eye is irresistibly drawn to her face. The luminous quality of the colours in the painting is intensified by the use of a ceramic plaque as the base, while the elaborately carved and gilded wooden frame provides a wealth of exuberant detailing. The portrait is stamped with the mark 'Golden Armor' on its reverse.
