About the Item

Ruth Cobb (American, 1914-2008), "The Whole World Loves the Lover", signed lower right, titled and signed verso, gallery label, matted and framed under glass. Ruth Cobb, studied at the Massachusetts College of Art and was an active member of the Boston and Provincetown modern art scene in the 1950s and 1960s. She was active in the American Watercolor Society, the New England Watercolor Society, The Allied Artists of America, and the National Academy of Design. Cobb received many awards including recognitions from the American Watercolor Society, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and the National Academy of Design. She exhibited actively at major venues such as the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, as well as galleries such as the Shore Galleries in Boston and the Cober Gallery in New York. Known for luminosity, light infused still life and interior painting, her chosen medium was watercolor on paper.
