This captivating 19th-century portrait features Dr. Dirk de Vries Reilingh, a distinguished Dutch doctor born in 1805 in The Netherlands. His esteemed medical career and university background granted him prestige and status within the intellectual elite of his time.
Painted by the renowned Bastiaan de Poorter (1813-1880), a master portraitist whose works are held in esteemed museum collections, this piece reflects the artistry of a painter who also served as director of the National Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam from 1870 to 1879.
The painting is elevated by its stunning original gilded frame, featuring unique raised edges that elegantly project forward, creating a sense of depth and grandeur.
