About the Item

Chinese hand-painted wallpaper of Phoenix, 18th century wallpaper stretched on wood. Some crazing and fine cracks evident upon closer look. Behind glass. The painting shows incredibly fine details, especially on the feathers. During the 17th century, Chinese handcrafted goods such as porcelain, wood-prints, and wallpapers were extremely sought after in European countries and seen as luxury goods. This beautiful wallpaper is decorated with birds and flowers, a collection of important Chinese symbolism that were reflective of that time period. However, the most eye-catching, and perhaps most important part of this wallpaper is the giant Phoenix located at the center of the piece. Phoenixes have a long history in China and are regarded as an important cultural symbol of virtue and grace. With the immense detail and the history surrounding this wallpaper, it would serve as a great statement piece. Measurements: 50"x 67" x 1" Thick Framed.
